چکیده

It is well-established that amount of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) per somatic cell for a given species remains constant, irrespective of the nutritional status of the animal (1). Therefore, any variation in the mean amount of DNA per organ must be attributed to variations in either the mass or the number of cells of the tissue concerned. In the course of an investigation into the ac tivity of certain enzymes of rat liver following a period of daily administra tion of ƒ¿-tocopheryl acetate (ƒ¿TAc) it was observed that the DNA content

Metabolic effects of alpha-tocopheryl acetate. II. Influence of alpha-tocopheryl acetate on cholesterol and phospholipid synthesis in rat liver homogenates.

Gray and Loh (1) have shown previously that dietary ƒ¿-tocopheryl acetate (ƒ¿ TAc) brings about increases in phospholipids, total and free cholesterol in the plasma of healthy human subjects. It seemed probable that the dietary ƒ¿TAc affected the liver cell itself, the blood being merely a transport medium. This hypothesis was investigated, using rat liver homogenates from animals main tained f...

Tissue alpha-tocopherol concentrations following supplementation with various forms of vitamin E in sheep.

Tissue alpha-tocopherol concentrations were determined in 40 lambs following oral supplementation of various forms of vitamin E. Lambs were allocated to 8 dietary groups of 5 animals each and supplemented with or without equimolar amounts (300 mg equivalence) of different vitamin E compounds daily for 60 d as follows: 1) control, no supplemental vitamin E; 2) D-alpha-tocopheryl acetate; 3) DL-a...

Dietary n-6- or n-3-rich vegetable fats and a-tocopheryl acetate: effects on fatty acid composition and stability of rabbit plasma, liver and meat

We supplemented diets with a-tocopheryl acetate (100 mg/kg) and replaced beef tallow (BT) in feeds with increasing doses of n-6or n-3-rich vegetable fat sources (linseed and sunflower oil), and studied the effects on the fatty acid (FA) composition, the a-tocopherol (aT) content and the oxidative stability of rabbit plasma and liver. These effects were compared with those observed in a previous...

Effects of Dietary Supplementation of Zinc and α-Tocopheryl Acetate on Performance and Zinc Concentrations in Egg and Tissues of Japanese Quails

We investigated the effects of dietary supplementation of zinc (ZnO; 0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 mg/kg) and Vit E (α-tocopheryl acetate; 0 and 40 IU/kg) on egg production, egg quality and Zn content of egg fractions and tissues in Japanese quails. Using a 5 × 2 factorial design, a total of 960 Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) at day 70 of age were housed in cages and randomly assigned in...
